Acterna 8630 protocol analyzer w / bitgate 2262 E1/T1

The Acterna 8630 is a portable protocol analyzer used for testing of all fixed inter-
faces of mobile radio networks (GSM, GPRS, CDMA, UMTS), access networks (V5, ISDN) and SS#7 networks.
It offers powerful applications for detailed analysis and statistical evaluation of signaling information on-line and off-line that makes it the ideal solution for instal-
lation, maintenance, troubleshooting and network optimization.
The telecom protocol analyzer is particularly valuable for:
integration test labs of manufacturers and operators
professional service teams of network element manufacturers,
engineering, planning, operation and maintenance teams of operators.
The modular concept allows to combine interfaces and extend their number, to add applications and decodes. The Acterna 8630 provides the platform for future tech-
modular platform with synchronized time-stamps across all interfaces.
monitoring of 32 signaling timeslots or 2 Mbps frame relay per E1/T1 module up to 8 E1/T1 with 128 channels per unit.
Complete signaling for GSM, GPRS, UMTS, access and SS7 networks
Comprehensive set of protocols over TCP/IP including VoIP
Operation simplifi ed by auto confi gura-
tion, selectable depth of protocol de-
code, display and predefi nition of fi lters and counters
User friendly: 15 display, Windows XP ,
intuitive operation, compact size
Network optimization software for GSM and GPRS networks generates diagnos-
tics and identifi es reasons for problems
2 These features are the same for on-line and off-line usage and included in both packages: 8630 protocol analyzer and 8630 off-line protocol analyzer.
The protocol viewer is the main function of the analyzer. In summary and detail view the decoded information of the monitored link is displayed.
Event parameters listed in columns per default: Direction, physical link (trunk, timeslot), logical link, call identifi er, message contents, timestamp
Hiding and unhiding of columns
User preferences for customizing the summary view:
Timestamp format and reference start time
Display depth of message contents column: user-defi nable information at protocol level, message level and information element level (e.g. P-TMSI in attachment procedure at
Protocol identifi cation: different colors for different protocols
Signaling point code/circuit identifi -
cation code display selectable (names, hex, decimal)
User defi nable columns: order of col-

In a huge amount of data this feature helps quick and easy location of any specified parameter below.
Protocol messages, information ele-
ments and information element con-
tents (e.g. calling party number)
With filters down to bit level the displayed information is custom tailored and reduced to what is of main interest for the user.
Protocol fi lter: on all protocol layers, at messages level, information ele-
ments level, down to information ele-
ment contents level (decimal, binary
Filters can be combined logically using the operators AND, OR, NOT

The 8630 can be operated in a multi-user environment. In that case the analyzer is monitoring links at a network element and creating a capture file while several users at remote PCs can look at the cap-
ture file and perform different analysis tasks.
The capture file can be on the 8630 itself, or in case that the 8630 is connected to a LAN/WAN, on an external database on the LAN/WAN (Figure 1).
The generation of several capture files which are stored on different destinations is possible.
The assessment of the capture file by 8630 applications can be done on the 8630 itself or/and on external (Windows) PCs. Since this assessment means only a read command for the capture file, several applications can be run in parallel by one or more users (Figure 2).
8630 in multi-user environment is an optional functionality.
