1950's J.R. Moseley John Deere Give-Away Ad Screwdriver
Are you a collector of John Deere give-away items? Well, here is a 7 long screwdriver that has an advertisement on it for a John Deere dealer by the name of J.R. MOSELEY IMPLEMENT CO. from Conrad, Iowa. I have tried to research Mr. Moseley in records that the library in the town of Conrad has (I live 2 miles from Conrad) and did not come up with anything in writing about him or his company. An Internet search revealed nothing. I wonder if there is any information on this dealer in some Iowa John Deere records somewhere but, unfortunately, I don t have the time to spend to search any farther.
I do have a little first-hand knowledge about the Implement Co. and I can tell you approximately when this dealer was in business. My husband grew up in the Conrad area and remembers the buildings, there were evidently more than one, where Moseley had his business. My husband graduated from the Conrad High School in 1958 and the dealer was there at that time. (If anyone out there has information about this dealer and they would like to share it with me I would welcome your email. My husband would also like to have his memory refreshed if you remember more.)
This screwdriver has some surface scratches in the lower 2 long white plastic part of the handle. The upper green half of the handle is 1-1/2 long and it has a 5/8 diameter across out at the end. The handle is in good shape and it does not appear that anyone every used a hammer on the end of it as it is still smooth and nicely rounded; not mushroomed like they can get when they ve been hammered on. The metal shaft part of the screwdriver has the word tempered stamped in it. The blade of the screwdriver is slightly distorted from use.
