Introduced from England in the late 1800's, Orpingtons quickly became one of the most popular farm fowls in this country.
Large, quiet and stately birds, Blue Orpingtons are a dual purpose fowl and are easily dressed. They are a lovely white skinned eating bird..... plump and juicy from your oven....
Quite LARGE at maturity.......even larger than the beloved Buff Orpington.....Roosters will average 8-12 lbs............
They are also excellent winter layers, shelling out brown eggs right through cold weather........
The Blue Orpington chicken is a highly docile bird and is very suitable for families with small children. They are very popular and their popularity is increasing.
Orpingtons also tend to be smarter than other breeds. Some Orpingtons have learned tricks and they can come when their name is called. They love to be handled......
These beautiful fowl are some of our best setters and mothers.... Perfect for hatching eggs from non-setters.......... they are young and very healthy and active.........

***(Andalusian Genetics) THE COLOR BLUE: An interesting genetic characteristic of Blue Orpingtons is the return in the descendant of not only all blue chicks, but also the black, white, and black-white colors used in the earliest matings many generations ago to create these blue fowl. All of these chicks carry the blue genes and when mated black to white or with other blues in turn produce numerous blue progeny. Approximately 50% of the baby chicks from these fertile hatching eggs will be all blue. The other 50% will be black and blue/white combinations (splash).
