The Silver Appleyard breed is on the Critical list for 2010 according to the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy and there is a critical need for more conservation breeders of Appleyards.
This big, colorful duck was developed by Reginald Appleyard. The Appleyard is a combination of beauty, size, lots of big white eggs, and a deep long wide breast The Silver Appleyard duck is ideal for exhibition, pets, decoration, eggs, and gourmet roasting. They are one of the best layers among the heavyweight ducks, averaging 200 to 250 white eggs per year. They are active foragers with very calm temperaments. They typically weigh 6 8 pounds. The breast, sides, shoulders and flank on a drake is a deep rich reddish-chestnut with white frosting and lacing. The underbody is creamy or silvery white and wings are gray and white with a bright blue cross-stripe. The females have an absolutely stunning plumage generally whitish with gray, chocolate, fawn and buff markings with a bright blue cross-stripe on the wings. The legs and feet are orange.
