Silver coated mirrors have the highest reflectivity in the visible range of all the metal coated mirrors. Silver itself is the most susceptible to oxidation. Protected silver mirrors have an overcoat of SiO2 to prevent damage from the environments. With the exception of the UV, silver is an ideal choice for high reflectivity from visible to Mid-infrared light.
