MegaBACE 1000 DNA Analysis System is a high-throughput, fluorescence-based DNA system utilizing capillary electrophoresis with up to 96 capillaries operating in parallel. The capillaries are supplied in pre-assembled arrays of 16 capillaries. 16, 32, 48, 64, 80 or 96 capillaries can be used during a run.
MegaBACE Long Read Matrix is optimized for both sequencing and genotyping applications. This saves time when switching between applications, and results in less waste.
MegaBACE Long Read Matrix can produce DNA sequences of 700 bases or resolve multiplexed fragments in excess of 900 bases. The gel matrix is replaceable, and each pack includes 96 pre-dispensed tubes plus running buffer.

The MegaBACE DNA Genotyping System automatically processes 2000 microsatellite genotypes per 96-well run. The total turnaround time per run is less than 2 hours from injection to injection. This corresponds to more than 14 000 genotypes per system per day. For SNP analysis, MegaBACE 1000 can deliver >5 760 SNPs per day.

AMERSHAM PHARMACIA BIOTECH'S DNA SEQUENCER BECOMES FIRST CAPILLARY-BASED INSTRUMENT TO ACHIEVE VALIDATION WITH PHRED
Sunnyvale, California - Amersham Pharmacia Biotech, the life sciences division of Nycomed Amersham plc (NYSE: NYE; LSE: NAM), announced today that University of Washington will be releasing a new version of PHRED, a crucial sequencing data analysis program used by high-throughput DNA sequencing facilities. The new version of PHRED is re-calibrated for data produced by the MegaBACE 1000 DNA sequencer. It is the only capillary sequencer to be validated with this new version of PHRED.
"We originally developed PHRED for use with older, fluorescent slab gel systems. The data produced by capillary sequencers required a refinement to the program and validation to ensure agreement between predicted quality values and actual quality values in PHRED," said Brent Ewing, PhD at the University of Washington Molecular Biotechnology Department. "We have verified that the quality values assigned by PHRED are accurate for data produced by MegaBACE, and we used over four million base pairs of data supplied by the genome community to calibrate PHRED for it. The community can be confident in using data generated by MegaBACE."
