Siemens BB419 VHF Varactor/Variable Capacitance Diode 5..30pF (Qty.25)
On offer are several lots, each of 25 new (old stock) pieces of a variable capacitance diode by Siemens, fresh on factory strip.
Designed for tuning VHF VCOs. Also useful for voltage controlled filters and many other places a variable capacitance is needed.
* High voltage: Vr = 28V for ~5pF min capacitance
* Medium capacitance: Vr= 3v for ~30pF
* High Capacitance Ratio ~6 (Cv3/Cv25)
* Low loss: series resistance of 0.35 Ohm typ @ 100MHz
* SOD-123 Surface mount, but large enough for careful hand soldering
Once popular in FM and TV tuners, now hard to find new as both Philips & Siemens appear to have discontinued.
A goodly quantity here to experiment with (or save for a rainy day) at a very fine price while they're here. One for the experimenters parts drawer ...

The tuning range is a function of the ratio between the highest and lowest capacitance obtainable. These diodes achieve a 6:1 ratio with a 25 volt swing making them useful in broadband VCOs.
Varactors usually retail around the 0.50 each mark ... here at a small fraction of that ...
