6 large premium bundles of french walnut veneer wood

French Walnut from north east France. Hearne Hardwoods found 1381 square feet of this veneer for us in 2001 to match some lumber that also came from NE France. They found it in Germany at the Mercedes Benz plant where it was left over from a prior year production run. Mercedes searches the world for especially nice veneers to use in their cars and it's different every year. This is very nice veneer. Cost was $3.50 per square foot in 2001. We used only 112 square feet.

French Walnut is properly known as Juglans Regia (Royal Walnut). It is typically named for the region it was grown such as French, English, Turkish, California English, Persian, Old World or wherever. It's still all Juglans Regia the only difference being each location has certain soil and climate differences which impart different characteristics to the lumber. Arguably the finest wood in the world for constructing fine woodwork.
A leaf of veneer is sliced from a flitch or log; the cut pieces are called leaves and kept in order of cutting; typically 24 to 32 leaves are placed in a bundle; bundles cut from the same flitch are likewise kept in consecutive order. All natural wood products contain defects. I have tried to take photos to reveal any defects, splits, cracks, checking or holes. I used alcohol to wet the wood so you can get an idea of finished color.
