IBM HS3 Simplex and HD5 and HD6 Duplex Printing Systems
The IBM 4100 is the ultra-high-speed Infoprint 4100 production printer with the
Infoprint(R) POWER(TM) Controller.
Targeted at printing environments where throughput and printing speed are critical factors,
these simplex and duplex models allow printing at over 1400(1) letter-size (8.5 inch x 11
inch) impressions-per-minute (ipm) for two-up duplex applications.
Standard features such as 600 dots per inch (dpi) input and output, a 19-inch (482.6 mm)
Infoprint POWER controller technology push the envelope for the high-speed digital
printing industry. Optional features such as a speed switch, and high-speed FICON and
Gigabit Ethernet attachments allow for maximum productivity.

The IBM Infoprint 4100 Model HS3 is a high speed, high quality simplex printer.
The Model HS3 can print at up to 720 impressions per minute in two - up simplex.
The IBM Infoprint 4100 Model HD5 is the first engine of the HD5/6 high speed duplex
printing system. Model HD5 does not contain its own control unit and therefore must
always be used in conjunction with Model HD6.
The IBM Infoprint 4100 Model HD6 is the second engine of the HD5/6
high speed duplex printing system. Model HD6 contains the Infoprint POWER
Controller and can be used to print in simplex (without the HD5) or in dual simplex or
duplex by mating with the HD5. The high speed duplex printing system HD5/6 can print at
up to 1440 impressions per minute in two - up duplex.
These models of the Infoprint 4100 family of printers are designed for very-high-
throughput production printing environments where print speed is a critical factor.
Building upon the many industry-leading features of the Infoprint 4000 and 4100
families of printers, the new models of the Infoprint 4100 offer increased speed, an
Changeable Developer, and high-speed connectivity options.
The Infoprint POWER Controller features a new architecture. The new architecture is
designed to support very high speed rasterization requirement for both the black & white
and the full color AFP environment.
The controller utilizes AFP architecture to cache and re-use objects and provides a new
level of support for multiprocessors. The Infoprint POWER Controller design allows for a
broad range of scalability needed for future production printing environments with
The maximum forms width of the Infoprint 4100 family - 19.5 inches (495.3 mm) -
allows the printing of 3-up 6x9 or A5 statements. The ability to print 3-up statements
lowers the total cost of printing and provides for very high throughput in your printing
The maximum print width is 19.0 inches (482.6 mm) with tractorless (pinless) operation
and 18.5 inches (469.9 mm) with pin-feed operation.
The Infoprint 4100 Models HS3 and HD5/6 have the ability to be switched to a lower
speed by an operator for applications such as MICR printing.
