Hokusai - japanese prints - 2007 wall calendar
At seventy-five, the master printmaker Katsushika Hokusai reflected that all that I made before seventy is insignificant. Hokusai (1760-1849) apparently thought himself a late bloomer, but he created more than 10,000 prints marvels of the block printer s fusion of art and hard-won technique. Compositionally more straightforward than Hiroshige s woodcuts, Hokusai s are no less complex in their evocation of humming life. This calendar presents reproductions from three of Hokusai s most famous print series: Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, One Hundred Poems Explained by the Nurse, and Remarkable Views of Bridges in Various Provinces.
