Rottler model hp power stroke engine cylinder hone
ROTTLER model HP power stroke engine cylinder hone. This is a great Hone for finish honing any type of bored cylinders and obtain the correct crosshatch finish for proper ring seating. We used this hone for all of our cylinder finishing after first boring with our Rottler FA4B boring machine. When boring your engines the proper way is to cut your cylinder .003 under what ever your finished oversize is going to be then transfer it to the hone to give it the proper cylinder finish and crosshatch this is obtained by honing the first .002 with 100 grit stones and then changing to 280 grit stones to remove the final .001.
You can hone any size cylinder from 2 5/8 inches up thru 6 inches in diameter with the correct stones. After you set up your engine either in the cradle for V-6 or V-8 engines or any straight 4 - 6 or single cylinder on the parallel's your ready to hone. It's easy to set up the POWER STROKE feature by placing the hone head in the cylinder lower it until you have some stone extension at the bottom of the cylinder lock it there and then bring the hone head up and adjust it to also have stone extension at the top of the cylinder and lock it there your ready to hone. Once you set the bottom stop for the engine your going to hone there's no need to set it again your set for all of the cylinders on the engine your going to hone. Turn on your honing oil start the machine it will start the up and down stroke. Stone expansion and retraction is done by the aluminum wheel on the vertical drive shaft and accomplished when the machine is running. Stroke speed is adjustable by a air valve to control the up and down speed which also controls your final crosshatch angle. You have the ability to monitior your honing with the Amp gauge on the control panel of course the higher the Amp draw the harder your honing and more material is being removed, lower the Amps and of course the lighter your honing and less material is being removed. Movement from one cylinder to the next is accomplished with an air float head when your done with one turn on the air float float to the next cylinder center lock the hone head and your ready to go again.
If you want to use it for manual honing just need to set the bottom stop start the oil and machine advance your stones and operate it manually you pull down and the arm is spring loaded to assist raising it back up. Using it manually is great for just touching up cylinders or get that crosshatch just how you want it.
Honing oil is delivered by a heavy duty pump that is located in the oil reservoir under the machine that slides out for cleaning also a large oil filter canister is located on the back of the machine to filter your oil so you always get clean oil. The filter is a common large truck oil filter and available at any parts store like NAPA.
This has been an absolutely 100% dependable machine with never any issues needing repair just simple maintenance of changing filters and oil. As with any engine rebuilding equipment that is manufactured by Rottler they are built to basically last a lifetime and will probally outlast your shop I purchased this machine used in 1990 and theres no reason it can't be used for another 20 + years of service with proper maintenance.
