AMPEX ATM300 ATM 300 OC-3 SONET for DSI 124i/164i Drive
The Ampex ATM 300 interface was developed in response to the growing use of ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode), OC-3 (Optic Carrier) and SONET ((synchronous optical network) formats. Used in conjunction with Ampex's DIS 124i and 164i tape drives, the user is able to directly record and playback data at 155.52 Mb/second.
The OC-3/ATM optical signal is converted to telecommunications serial data, supplied to the DIS 124i/164i tape drives via the HOTLink serial input and recorded directly to tape at a constant rate of 155.52 Mb/seconds. During playback, the DIS 124i/164i tape drives HOTLink serial output is converted back to OC-3 optical data and output at the same constant rate of 155.52 Mb/second.
Machine control is via the RS-232/422 control ports on the DIS 124i/164i tape drives.
The ATM 300 interface is housed in a single, rack-mountable unit (17"W x 1.875"H x 8"D).
